On January 30th, 2025, Tokudai Hospital Art Labo, led by Associate Professor Tanaka Kei (who also serves at the Center for Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning), was honored with the "Kirameki Award" as part of the 2024 Tokushima Inclusive Society Initiative. ('Kirameki' can be translated as 'sparkle' in English.)
The Tokushima Inclusive Society Initiative Award recognizes NPOs and volunteer organizations actively engaged in social contribution efforts as key players in building a new form of public service, with the goal of creating an inclusive society where everyone can support one another and live with peace of mind. The award ceremony was held at the Tokushima Prefectural Government Office, where Vice Governor Shida Toshio presented the certificate and trophy.
Tokudai Hospital Art Labo began its activities in 2018 with the creation of stairwell art at Tokushima University Hospital and has since continued as a local problem-solving project within the Center. The group was recognized for its efforts in introducing washi tape (masking tape) art to hospitals and welfare facilities across Tokushima Prefecture, fostering connections among diverse people.
