2024 Presentation Session of the Short Term Study Abroad Programs (hereinafter referred to as the “session”) was held at the Otsuka Memorial University Auditorium on October 23rd, 2024 Wednesday.
This session has been held every year since 2011, except for the three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of contributing to the globalization of the Faculty of Medicine and ultimately promoting the internationalization of Tokushima University by allowing students who have studied abroad at overseas academic exchange partner institutions to report their research results and their experiences abroad to faculty and students.
The session began with an opening address in English by Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Ichiro Hashimoto. The presenters, in the following order, made presentations in English about the accomplishments of their overseas study abroad programs: University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (USA), Hannover Medical School (Germany), Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), St. George's University of London (UK) and University of Hawaii (USA).
The presenters reported in English on the results of their research, the local medical/healthcare situation, what they gained and the challenges they encountered during their study abroad, as well as differences in culture and customs between Japan and overseas that surprised them.
This year, a student from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland who is studying at the School of Health Sciences also participated in this session, creating a very international atmosphere. Approximately 220 students and faculty members from the Schools of Medicine, Medical Nutrition and Health Sciences listened intently to the presentations, and there was a lively Q&A session in English after each presentation. At the end of the session, all the presenters took a commemorative photograph together, and the session came to a close.
