The 71st Tokushima University Corpse Memorial Service

2024/11/5

On October 16th, 2024, the 71st Tokushima University Corpse Memorial Service was held at the Otsuka Memorial University Auditorium on the Kuramoto Campus.

The corpse memorial service is held every year to console the souls of those who donated their bodies for the advancement of medical and dental education and research. This year marked the 71st anniversary of the event, and a moment of silence was observed for the 74 people who donated their bodies between August 2023 and the end of July 2024. The chief priest, Professor Yasuhiko Nishioka, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and others delivered remarks in memory of the donors.

For students aiming to study medicine or dentistry, dissection classes using actual human bodies to learn about the structure of the human body are essential and provide a valuable experience that cannot be learned from textbooks. In addition to gaining knowledge, this program also provides an opportunity to become aware of one's sense of mission as someone who will shoulder the medical care of the future.

Approximately 390 people including family members of donors, members of the Shiragiku-kai, students and university officials offered flowers remembering the noble aspirations of those who donated their bodies.
